In 1919 Gray undertook the designing of an apartment on Rue de Lota, in Paris. Over a ten year period Gray designed the lamps, rugs, furnishings and interior walls. Like the process of lacquer work, and those in which she would engage with her later houses, it was a long, painstaking process of layering, repetition, improvisation.
